The project, with a substantial budget of $5 billion, aims to address the growing demands of the community and enhance healthcare provisions in the region.
Geneviève Biron, the head of Santé Québec, articulated the significance of this milestone, emphasizing the meticulous planning and oversight that will characterize the project’s progression. Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé echoed the sentiment, underlining the pressing need to bridge the gap between healthcare facility capacity and the increasing population in the area.
The hospital, previously burdened with issues such as power outages and water leaks, is now poised for a transformative journey towards modernization and efficiency.
The initial phase of the project involves the construction of a multi-level parking garage to facilitate the relocation of employee parking. This step is crucial as it paves the way for the construction of a new main building boasting 720 beds. The competitive market dynamics have led to cost savings, with Dubé highlighting the financial benefits of the current climate.
Following this, temporary structures will be erected to ensure uninterrupted hospital operations during the construction phase. The subsequent stages will involve intricate processes such as relocating essential infrastructure underground before commencing the construction of the main building.
