Cyclist Rushed to Hospital Following Harrowing Collision in East Vancouver

A cyclist was injured in a collision with a vehicle in East Vancouver on Thursday, leading to hospitalization.

According to BC Emergency Health Services, paramedics responded to the incident at the intersection of Clark Drive and East 1st Avenue at approximately 12:20 p.m.

Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites stated that emergency medical treatment was administered to the injured cyclist, who was then transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Images from the scene show law enforcement redirecting traffic along Clark Drive. The Vancouver Police Department has confirmed that an investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Expressing concern for those involved, Navdeep Chhina, the director of campaigns and inclusion at HubCycle, emphasized the need for safer intersections and streets for all road users.

Chhina referenced ICBC data highlighting the high-risk nature of the stretch of Clark Drive between East 1st and East 2nd avenues for cyclists.

He stressed the importance of creating connected and secure routes for active transportation and urged both drivers and cyclists to adhere to traffic regulations and respect one another on the road.

As Vancouver’s roads become busier with the back-to-school season, Chhina appealed for increased vigilance from drivers and emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe distance from cyclists.
