The planned three-day strike by bus drivers at Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) has been called off, bringing relief to commuters. The transit authority announced on Friday that regular service will resume as scheduled.
The decision to cancel the strike came after the Administrative Labour Tribunal intervened, deeming the essential services provided by the RTL insufficient to warrant a full strike. The tribunal ruled that the strike cannot proceed until adequate measures are in place to ensure essential services are maintained.
The union, representing 714 bus drivers who are members of a local chapter of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, which is affiliated with the FTQ, had originally voted in favor of the strike.
