A section of the Coquihalla Highway, known as Highway 5, is currently shut down in both directions near Merritt due to a fiery incident involving a semi-truck, according to reports from DriveBC.
The closure is specifically affecting the stretch between the exits for Merritt and Coldwater Road, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area.
Adding to the travel woes, this latest incident occurred just a short distance away from a recent forest fire, compounding the challenges for commuters in the region.
This closure follows closely on the heels of another disruption earlier in the day when a portion of Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt had to be closed due to a separate wildfire-related issue.
Stay tuned for further updates on the situation.
