Tragic Highway 5 Crash Near Kamloops Claims Two Lives, Injures Three More

Tragedy struck on Friday evening as a collision on the Coquihalla/Highway 5 resulted in two fatalities and left two others with serious injuries, according to the BC Highway Patrol.

The incident unfolded when reports came in about a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction along the northbound lanes of Highway 5, just south of Kamloops, around 9 p.m. Before authorities could intervene, a grey Dodge Ram pickup and a white Hyundai Kona hatchback collided head-on, as described by Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

McLaughlin expressed concerns about the potential involvement of criminal activity in the crash, urging witnesses to come forward with any information on the activities of the drivers leading up to the tragic event.

It’s important to note that this collision is separate from other recent incidents on the Coquihalla, including a semi-truck fire and a wildfire that caused closures on Thursday and Friday.
