CAQ’s Suzanne Roy Announces Shock Exit from 2026 Electoral Race

Quebec Minister Suzanne Roy, representing Verchères, has announced that she will not run for re-election in 2026, signaling a move towards retirement. In a heartfelt message on Facebook to her constituents, Roy shared her decision, stating that after careful deliberation, she has chosen not to seek another term. Despite her pending retirement, Roy affirmed her commitment to fulfilling her duties until the upcoming election in October 2026.

The 63-year-old MNA’s decision coincides with Premier François Legault’s imminent cabinet reshuffle, with reports suggesting that Roy will not be part of the next cabinet, further hinting at her departure from politics in 2026. Alongside Roy, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, André Lamontagne, will also be stepping down from the cabinet.

Roy, who previously served as Mayor of Sainte-Julie and held leadership roles within the Union des municipalités du Québec, has been a dedicated public servant. Before her tenure as Minister of Families and overseeing the Montérégie region, she brought her experience and expertise to various municipal and governmental positions.
