The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) has provided further details about a tragic collision that resulted in the loss of two lives and injuries to three others on the Coquihalla Highway near Kamloops. The incident occurred Friday evening when reports came in about a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the northbound lanes south of Kamloops just before 9 p.m.
According to Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, before authorities could intercept the wrong-way driver, a grey Dodge Ram pickup and a white Hyundai Kona hatchback collided head-on, leading to the devastating outcome.
In an update released on Monday, the BCHP revealed that the two women who tragically lost their lives were a 36-year-old and a 27-year-old. Efforts are being made to inform their international next of kin about the heartbreaking incident.
Additionally, three more individuals sustained serious injuries in the crash, including two occupants of the white Hyundai and the driver of the Dodge Ram truck. The authorities are investigating the actions of the Dodge driver, emphasizing the need for more witnesses and video evidence to complete the investigation.
Cpl. McLaughlin urged anyone who witnessed any suspicious behavior by the driver of the grey Dodge Ram pickup leading up to the collision to come forward and assist in the investigation.
