Authorities are investigating the unfortunate death of a man in North York after he was tasered by police on Sunday.
The Toronto Police Service confirmed in a social media post on Sunday evening that they had responded to a high-priority call at around 5:41 p.m. in the vicinity of Keele Street and Broad Oaks Drive. The incident involved a man wielding a knife, which prompted officers to use a taser to subdue him.
Despite being taken into custody, the man tragically passed away at the scene shortly after the confrontation. Details surrounding the incident remain limited, with the police stating that a thorough investigation is currently underway.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), an independent government agency in Ontario, has taken charge of the case. The SIU specializes in probing incidents involving police actions that lead to fatalities, severe injuries, sexual assault, or the use of firearms against individuals.
