The president of the B.C. General Employees’ Union, Paul Finch, is all set to unveil the next steps in the ongoing public service strike in an announcement this morning. This development comes as the union’s job action enters its fifth consecutive day of picketing in Surrey, with over 34,000 members actively participating.
The union has been holding picket lines at various locations, including government sites in Victoria, Surrey, Prince George, and the Royal BC Museum. Among the key demands put forth by the union are better wages and improved access to telework options for its members.
Addressing the situation, Premier David Eby has emphasized the government’s commitment to finding a fair resolution that serves the interests of both unionized workers and taxpayers. Negotiations for a new contract stalled in July, leading to the escalation of the strike.
