Gas Prices Surge in Vancouver with Potential Relief Ahead
Vancouver residents are feeling the pinch at the pump as gas prices soar to $1.83 per litre, marking a significant increase from just last week. According to a recent survey of 427 gas stations in Metro Vancouver, the average price stood at $1.76 per litre, reflecting a notable 12.6-cent hike in the past week.
Experts from GasBuddy.com attribute this spike to various factors, including a looming refinery shutdown in California. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, explained that the rise in gasoline prices has been particularly pronounced in British Columbia compared to other provinces.
Despite the current surge, De Haan remains optimistic about potential relief in the near future. He pointed out that the upcoming switch to winter gasoline could alleviate prices if oil prices stabilize and regional issues are resolved. Moreover, the recent announcement by OPEC+ regarding an increase in oil production starting in October may contribute to keeping oil prices in check.
As of Sunday, the average gas prices in Vancouver were 3.1 cents higher per litre compared to a year ago and 9.1 cents higher than a month prior. While the situation remains challenging for consumers, there is hope on the horizon for a possible decrease in prices in the coming weeks.
