Liberal Leader Considers Recruiting Former CAQ Member for Elections
Liberal leader Pablo Rodriguez hinted at the possibility of recruiting former CAQ member Pierre Dufour as a candidate for the upcoming elections, describing him as “a damn good guy.” Rodriguez expressed admiration for Dufour’s courage in standing up for his region after being expelled from the CAQ caucus by Premier François Legault.
Rodriguez, speaking at his party’s caucus in Quebec City, emphasized the importance of unity within the government team to deliver the changes expected by Quebecers. He criticized Legault’s decision to expel Dufour, stating that it’s not normal for a party leader to dismiss a member of parliament for defending his region.
While Rodriguez refrained from discussing the details of his conversation with Dufour, he acknowledged their longstanding acquaintance and mutual respect. Dufour, in response, hinted at taking time for himself and remained evasive about potentially joining the PLQ.
Other Liberal members, including MNA Monsef Derraji, praised Dufour for his dedication to his region and willingness to stand up for what he believes in. With the next election approaching, Rodriguez assured that many individuals were expressing interest in becoming candidates for the PLQ.
Parliamentary leader Marwah Rizqy highlighted the party’s ambitious recruitment targets to ensure readiness for the upcoming election. Despite recent polls showing a resurgence for the Liberals under Rodriguez’s leadership, the Parti Québécois maintains a lead in voting intentions.
