B.C. Premier’s Approval Rating Plummets to Record Low

David Eby’s approval ratings among British Columbia voters have taken a significant hit, dropping by another five per cent since June. Currently, only 41 per cent of voters approve of his performance, marking a decline of 12 per cent in the last six months alone. This latest data from the Angus Reid Institute reveals that Eby is now facing his lowest approval rating since taking office in November 2022.

According to Jon Roe, a Senior Research Associate at the polling firm, dissatisfaction with the B.C. government’s handling of crucial issues extends beyond just Conservative or moderate voters. Criticism is mounting, particularly regarding healthcare and the cost of living. Even within the NDP voter base, there is a division emerging on the government’s approach to these pressing matters.

Roe points out that despite Eby’s re-election less than a year ago, concerns have been raised over recent labor disputes, Indigenous land title decisions, and controversial policy reversals, such as the funding cut for a terminally ill child’s medication.

Moreover, financial worries about the increasing deficit under Eby’s tenure have contributed to the erosion of his support. Previously, in March this year, Eby enjoyed a 53 per cent approval rating, but his numbers have since fluctuated between 43 per cent and 48 per cent. His current 41 per cent approval places him near the bottom of the national premier ranking, sharing the second-to-last spot with Ontario Premier Doug Ford.
