“Commuter Alert: STM Strike to Disrupt Off-Peak Services from Sept. 22 to Oct. 5”

Montreal’s STM Union Workers to Strike, Prepare for Transit Disruptions

Starting on September 22, unionized maintenance workers at Montreal’s Société de transport de Montréal (STM) are set to go on strike for two weeks. This will lead to potential service interruptions for transit users in the city. The Administrative Labour Tribunal has outlined essential services that will be maintained during the strike period, which will conclude on October 5.

To mitigate the effects of the strike, STM is advising commuters to plan their trips ahead of time and check schedules on the stm.info/greve website. During the strike, the metro service will operate on modified schedules based on the day of the week.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the metro will run during specific hours, closing gradually after the morning rush hour at 9:30 a.m. and after the afternoon rush at 5:45 p.m. Regular late-night service will be available. Conversely, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the metro will adhere to its usual schedule.

Bus services will also experience limitations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with designated operating windows. Adapted transport services, however, will continue to be available at all times.

Having learned from a previous strike incident in June, STM has enhanced its communication strategies with customers. Updated schedules for the final trains at each metro station will be accessible online and displayed at stations.

In light of the anticipated strike impact, the transit agency will host a press briefing on Thursday afternoon to provide further details on essential services and the overall implications for commuters.
