Soraya Martinez Ferrada, a candidate for mayor and leader of Ensemble Montréal, has proposed a plan that would provide free parking permits to workers who offer home care services to seniors and individuals with limited mobility if she is elected in November.
In a recent press release, Ferrada expressed her commitment to fulfilling requests for free parking permits from worker groups and those dependent on their services for daily assistance. She emphasized the importance of integrating home care into parking planning to better serve citizens in need.
Syndicat québécois des employées et employés de service (SQEES-FTQ) President Sylvie Nelson praised the initiative, stating that it would save time for workers looking for parking and prevent potential fines.
Sarah Dubuc, an advocate for collective rights at Ex aequo, a Montreal-based organization supporting individuals with reduced mobility, highlighted the positive impact of granting parking permits to home care workers. She hoped that other political parties would also consider similar measures.
The proposal comes ahead of the upcoming mayoral election in Montreal on Nov. 2.
