“Infestation Outrage: Farm Boy Staff Blow Whistle on Midtown Health Inspection Failure”

Farm Boy Workers Speak Out About Pest Infestation Issue in Toronto Store

Employees at a Farm Boy grocery store in Midtown Toronto are raising concerns after a recent health inspection led to the temporary closure of the store. The store, located at Yonge Street and Soudan Avenue, was shut down after failing a DineSafe Inspection conducted by the City of Toronto.

During the inspection, the store received four infractions, including two critical violations and one significant issue. The primary concern highlighted in the inspection report was the presence of rodents. Two employees, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the store has been plagued by a persistent mouse problem, with one of them referring to it as the “mouse store.”

One of the employees shared a disturbing incident where a family of mice was found living in a yam box, leading to a situation where the rodents jumped on employees as soon as they opened the box. They also mentioned that it was part of their routine to handle mouse droppings and remove dead mice regularly.

Apart from the rodent issue, the store was cited for failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration, which was deemed a critical violation. Employees described how mice roamed freely in the store, causing significant damage to the grocery section each night.

Despite efforts to address the infestation, including periodic blitzes by a third-party company to set traps, the employees noted that the problem persisted. The city’s website revealed that the same Farm Boy location had previous conditional passes with infractions related to pest control earlier in the year.

The employees expressed a sense of urgency in resolving the pest problem before the store reopens, emphasizing the potential health risks, especially for children who may unknowingly come into contact with contaminated food.

In response to the situation, Farm Boy acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and assured that they are actively working to address it. They mentioned collaborating with building management and engaging third-party experts to tackle the pest problem effectively.

Farm Boy stated that they are implementing enhanced safety procedures at the location and will keep the store closed until all corrective measures are completed, inspections are passed, and their high standards are met to ensure customer safety.
