This Sunday marks the somber two-year anniversary of a heartbreaking incident in Langley. A young woman, Adelai Laughlin, tragically lost her life after being struck by a driver while walking along 64 Avenue near 258 Street on the evening of Sept. 14, 2023. Despite the passage of time, Adelai’s family is still searching for closure, awaiting answers from authorities.
Cheryl Laughlin, Adelai’s mother, expressed her frustration and sorrow, emphasizing the lack of resolution for their family. The Langley RCMP initially indicated that the driver involved remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation. However, factors such as alcohol and speed were deemed to have played a role in the tragic collision.
Two years later, the Laughlins continue to seek justice and clarity regarding the outcome of the investigation. Samuel Laughlin, Adelai’s brother, highlighted their ongoing efforts to prompt action from law enforcement and prosecutors, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Both Cheryl and Samuel are determined to speak out and advocate for their daughter and others who may face similar circumstances in the future. They stress the importance of seeking justice while also promoting awareness and prevention of such tragedies.
While the Langley RCMP confirmed that the case remains under investigation, the BC Prosecution Service has also acknowledged progress in the matter. Despite the challenges they have faced, Cheryl and Samuel remain committed to their mission of ensuring that their daughter’s story leads to positive changes and serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and advocacy in the face of adversity.
