Three out of the four individuals accused in a purported anti-government scheme to seize land in the Quebec City area have decided to proceed with a trial by jury. Today, attorneys representing Marc-Aurèle Chabot, Raphaël Lagacé, and Simon Angers-Audet announced their clients’ selection during a court session in Quebec City. Additionally, the trio has exercised their right to request a preliminary hearing where a judge will assess the evidence to determine if the case should proceed to trial. These individuals, who have been denied bail, are facing charges related to terrorism following an alleged plan to establish an anti-government community north of the provincial capital. On the other hand, the fourth accused, Matthew Forbes, is not facing terrorism charges but is confronted with weapons-related allegations. Forbes, who has been granted bail with stringent conditions, revealed his intention to decide later on whether he prefers a trial by jury or a judge alone. The next court appearance for this case is set for September 19. Notably, Chabot and Forbes were active military members stationed at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier near Quebec City when the arrests took place on July 8.
