A serious accident involving multiple vehicles, including a tanker trailer, caused the closure of both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Avenue Road late on Friday night.
According to provincial police, the crash occurred in the westbound lanes around 11 p.m. While the exact number of vehicles involved and the extent of injuries remain unclear, photos from the scene reveal a tanker truck overturned, blocking the westbound express lanes. The spilled liquid cargo is visible on the highway, with damage to the concrete barrier separating the lanes.
Paramedics informed CityNews that they had taken one man to a trauma center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders were still present, evaluating other individuals at the scene.
By shortly after midnight, one lane of the eastbound highway had been reopened to allow traffic to pass through the area.
