“Legacy of Hope: Montreal Celebrates 45 Years of Terry Fox’s Enduring Battle Against Cancer”

Join Cities Across Canada in the 45th Annual Terry Fox Run

This Sunday, cities nationwide, such as Montreal, will unite to honor the 45th annual Terry Fox Run, celebrating a remarkable legacy in cancer research.

Montreal will host two events: one at Marché des Éclusiers in the scenic Old Port, and the other at Strathearn Park in Montreal West.

The Old Port run has already secured an impressive $234,459 in donations for cancer research prior to the event.

In Montreal’s Old Port, the registration kicks off at 8:30 a.m., followed by a heartwarming opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m. Participants can look forward to a day filled with family-friendly activities, including face painting, balloon sculptures by a local entertainer, a delicious barbecue, and an exciting 45th-anniversary prize draw.

The Marathon of Hope was initiated in 1980 when a courageous 21-year-old Terry Fox embarked on a run across Canada to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. Despite running an astonishing average of 42 kilometers per day for 143 days, Terry was compelled to halt his journey on Sept. 1, 1980, as cancer recurred and spread to his lungs, as documented by the Terry Fox Foundation.

The Terry Fox Run has since amassed over $850 million, contributing to more than 1,300 cancer research ventures nationwide.

For those interested in taking part or making donations, further information can be found on the Terry Fox Foundation website.
