Quebec School Boards Announce Continued Bus Suspensions into Monday

Two school boards in Quebec are facing disruptions in their bus services following a recent vehicle fire incident. The Grandes-Seigneuries School Service Center (CSSDGS) on Montreal’s South Shore has announced that approximately thirty Lion Electric buses will not be in operation on Monday.

Despite completing all bus inspections, some vehicles still need to undergo maintenance, resulting in a portion of the fleet being immobilized. The CSSDGS mentioned that 35 buses may be affected on Monday, a decrease from the nearly 60 buses that were out of service on the previous Friday. Parents whose children will be impacted by the service disruption will receive a notification via text message by 6 p.m.

Similarly, the Riverside School Board also confirmed that certain bus routes will be unavailable on Monday. They provided a list of affected bus numbers, advising parents to refer to the list for any changes to their child’s transportation schedule.

Meanwhile, the English Montreal School Board has yet to provide any updates on their bus routes as of Sunday evening. They assured parents that they would communicate any decisions made by Transco and the Ministry of Education promptly through official channels.

The Centre de service scolaire des Navigateurs (CSSDN) in the Quebec City region, on the other hand, announced that their school transportation services will continue as usual on Monday.

Following a recent fire incident involving a Lion Electric bus transporting students for the CSSDM, 1,200 Lion Electric school buses were temporarily taken off Quebec roads for a comprehensive inspection. Fortunately, all passengers were safely evacuated, and investigations have shown that the fire was not related to the bus’s battery.

Transport Canada is currently investigating this incident, along with two other fires and a thermal event involving LionC school buses since late 2024. Despite these challenges, Lion Electric remains dedicated to upholding strict safety measures and collaborative efforts to ensure the secure transportation of students.
