Three individuals are now facing a slew of charges following a violent carjacking incident in Oshawa that resulted in a man being injured and triggered a police pursuit culminating in a field.
The ordeal unfolded around 10:30 p.m. on September 13, when a man parked his car near Nonquon Road and Mary Street North. Three masked suspects reportedly approached him, launched an assault, and fled in his vehicle.
Aerial footage from the police helicopter Air1 shows officers tracking the stolen car as it raced north on Stevenson Road, evading a traffic stop and later heading west on Conlin Road. The pursuit came to a halt when the driver lost control and crashed into a field at Conlin Road and Anderson Street.
The suspects attempted to flee into a nearby greenspace but were swiftly apprehended with the assistance of Air1. This incident marks the third violent carjacking in the Durham Region within a fortnight, with the helicopter proving instrumental in apprehending the culprits.
Additionally, Durham police released audio from a 911 call made during the event, capturing a witness reporting the victim’s cries for help during the assault and carjacking.
“I wanted to report that there’s some guy yelling and screaming,” the caller describes. “Some guy running around screaming, ‘Help me! Help me!’ and then I hear a car crash and screaming wheels. The whole bit going on. I don’t know what’s going on up here.”
The victim sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a nearby hospital. A search of one suspect led to the discovery of a large knife and an airsoft gun.
