Members of Parliament in the House of Commons paid heartfelt tribute to the legendary hockey icon, Ken Dryden, today.
In a poignant moment, MPs rose for a silent remembrance in honor of the late Ken Dryden, the revered goaltender of the Montreal Canadiens who also held roles as a member of Parliament and a Liberal cabinet minister.
Addressing the gathering after the solemn moment, Prime Minister Mark Carney described Dryden as a national hero and a personal inspiration, revealing that Dryden was the very reason he pursued a career as a goalie.
Adding to the sentiments, the Prime Minister acknowledged that some of his fellow colleagues had the privilege of working alongside Dryden during his tenure as a member of Parliament representing York Centre.
Joining in to pay their respects, MPs across party lines including John Brassard of the Conservatives, Martin Champoux of the Bloc Québécois, and Leah Gazan of the NDP also stood in tribute to the late Ken Dryden.
Ken Dryden passed away at the age of 78 earlier this month following a brave battle with cancer.
