Lion Electric Buses Set to Roar Back Into Action This Wednesday

The Federation of Bus Carriers (FTA) has announced that around 75% of Lion buses are set to resume service on Quebec roads by Wednesday. Following a recent incident where one Lion electric school bus caught fire, leading to the temporary suspension of 1,200 buses, the FTA has confirmed that a full return of school transport services is scheduled for Friday.

FTA President and CEO Chantale Douglas emphasized the ongoing efforts of carriers to conduct thorough safety checks and necessary adjustments to ensure the swift and safe reinstatement of buses for passengers. Additionally, the FTA expressed the importance of a meeting with Education Minister Sonia LeBel to address the challenges faced by carriers transitioning to electric vehicles as mandated by the government.

The Federation raised concerns over the financial impact on carriers due to government decisions, particularly criticizing the reduction in financial assistance from $12,900 to $5,000 per bus. This move has reportedly strained the operations of numerous organizations across Quebec, leading to financial hardships.
