Two men have been arrested by York Regional Police in connection with the shooting of a woman in Markham earlier this year. The incident took place on Jan. 21, when reports of gunfire led officers to Lee Avenue and Noble Street. The victim, a woman who sustained a gunshot wound, was swiftly taken to the hospital and thankfully survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
After an extensive investigation spanning several months, authorities executed a search warrant at a Markham residence on Aug. 7. This operation resulted in the apprehension of one suspect, while a Canada-wide warrant was issued for the second individual. The latter was successfully taken into custody on Sept. 16.
Chao Chen, 35, from Markham, faces charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Zhou Ye, 42, hailing from Toronto, has been accused of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and failure to comply with a judicial release order.
It was revealed that Ye was already subject to a judicial release order at the time of his arrest, whereas Chen was wanted by York Regional Police for unrelated matters.
Both suspects are set to make their court appearances at a later date.
