Ontario Premier Doug Ford recently visited Barrie, Ontario over the weekend, accompanied by Mayor Alex Nuttall to inspect the city’s homeless encampments.
A social media post shared by Nuttall on September 20 showcased their visit to the sites, highlighting a call for provincial aid due to safety concerns that led Nuttall to declare a state of emergency.
During the tour of locations such as Milligan’s Pond, Nuttall and Ford discussed the importance of enforcing bylaws and addressing critical issues like mental health, addiction, and affordable housing. Nuttall emphasized the necessity for collaboration among various levels of government to tackle the complex situation in Barrie.
While progress has been made in clearing some encampments, Nuttall expressed that it may take several months to address the remaining ones.
