Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) recently apprehended a man for orchestrating a deceptive investment scheme that raked in more than $2.5 million unlawfully.
According to authorities, the probe commenced in June 2024 when a male individual purported to be a financial trader approached two victims with promises of substantial returns through the platform ‘Interactive Brokers’.
Between March 2023 and March 2024, the alleged culprit managed to convince the victims to transfer significant amounts of money for investment purposes. He advised them to create accounts on ‘Interactive Brokers’, granting him exclusive control over their investments.
The suspect allured the victims by flaunting luxury vehicles and presenting them with falsified investment profit statements.
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, law enforcement officials arrested 23-year-old Alex Noah Pekala from Oshawa, charging him with two counts of fraud exceeding $5000. Pekala was detained for a bail hearing.
