Truck drivers in Quebec came together on various highways to push for stronger enforcement of transportation rules. As part of the “Enough is Enough” movement, the truckers had organized gatherings in Montreal, Quebec City, and Trois-Rivières. Despite plans, the demonstration in Gatineau was called off.
Their main focus was shedding light on the issue of unqualified drivers operating heavy trucks, also known as “illegal truckers.” The group emphasized that while they aimed to slow down traffic, they did not intend to halt it completely. They assured that they would stick to the right lane and adhere to minimum speed limits.
The organizers of the protest pointed to concerning data showing a rise in truck-related accidents, underscoring the pressing need for reform. They stressed the importance of the government allocating responsibilities effectively between provincial and federal authorities.
One of the key demands outlined by the truckers was the creation of enhanced infrastructure to ensure rigorous enforcement of transportation regulations. Additionally, they called for stricter vehicle inspections and improved training for drivers.
