Vandalism Rampage Strikes DDO Election Campaign: Posters Defaced Amid Political Turmoil

A municipal candidate in Dollard-des-Ormeaux woke up to a disturbing sight over the weekend as his campaign posters were maliciously vandalized. Pulkit Kantawala, vying for the councillor position in District 7, found at least 10 of his election signs defaced with red paint, specifically targeting his face and name.

Regardless of whether his posters were placed above, below, or alongside those of fellow candidates, the vandal(s) seemed intent on singling out Kantawala’s campaign materials. The candidate, shocked by the deliberate act of vandalism, expressed his disappointment and concern for his safety.

Upon receiving photos of the vandalized posters from friends early Monday morning, Kantawala realized the extent of the damage was more widespread than initially thought. Subsequently, he discovered similar defacement not only on public poles but also in residential areas where he had been granted permission to display his signs.

Taking swift action, Kantawala reported the incident to the police and informed Élections Québec. He hopes for a thorough investigation into the matter and urges anyone with pertinent surveillance footage or information to come forward.

Expressing his dismay, Kantawala emphasized that such acts of vandalism should never occur, irrespective of one’s background or political beliefs. He stressed the importance of a democratic process where individuals can participate in elections without fear or intimidation.

While acknowledging his lack of concrete evidence regarding the culprits’ motives, Kantawala remains puzzled and disheartened by the incident. He believes in the fundamental right of individuals to engage in campaigns without facing such unwarranted interference.
