“Cougar Alert: Big Cat Sighting Sends Port Coquitlam Parkgoers on High Alert!”

Port Coquitlam Urges Caution as Mountain Lion Sighting Reported in Local Park

Residents of Port Coquitlam are being urged to be cautious following reports of a mountain lion sighting in a public park. The City has confirmed that sightings occurred at Blakeburn Lagoons Park near Carnoustie Golf Club.

If you happen to encounter a mountain lion, the city advises maintaining composure by stopping, staying calm, and refraining from running or turning your back. It is recommended to maintain eye contact, appear large, and assert yourself while slowly backing away from the animal.

Any sightings should be promptly reported to the BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS).

According to recent data from the BCCOS, there were 236 reported cougar sightings throughout the province in August alone.
