Commuters along the 504 King streetcar route are in for more changes this fall due to track replacements impacting two key intersections. The first major intersection affected is at King Street and Dufferin Street, where a full closure will be in effect starting September 15, affecting vehicles, cyclists, and public transit.
During this closure, the 504 King and 508 Lake Shore streetcars will be rerouted via Queen Street between Shaw Street and Roncesvalles Avenue, while the 29/329 Dufferin will take a detour to King Street West at Joe Shuster Way via Queen Street West and Shaw Street. Additionally, the 929 Dufferin Express route will be shortened to Queen Street West. This road closure is anticipated to last until early November 2025.
In a separate construction project, the intersection at Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue will also undergo work starting October 2025. The 504 King streetcar will operate only as far east as the Distillery Loop, with buses replacing streetcar service between Broadview Station and King Street and Parliament Street.
Moreover, the 501 Queen streetcar will be diverted via Broadview Avenue, Dundas Street, and Parliament Street, while the 503 Kingston Road streetcars will be replaced by buses rerouted via Queen Street to Parliament Street. The City assures that at least one travel lane in each direction on Queen Street will be maintained for vehicle traffic.
The construction work on Queen Street between Broadview Avenue and Davies Avenue will involve streetcar track replacements and the replacement of two 112-year-old watermains within the project area. These closures follow closely on the heels of another recent construction project that impacted the 504 King streetcar at King Street and Church Street.
