Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Joseph Woll has taken a temporary leave of absence from the team to address a personal family matter, as announced on Tuesday. The team has not disclosed when Woll is expected to return or provided specific details about the reason for his leave.
Woll, 27, had a strong performance in the recent regular season, playing a career-high 42 games and achieving a record of 27-14, along with one shutout and a .909 save percentage. He also played in seven playoff games, recording a 3-3 record with a .886 save percentage.
Having been part of the Maple Leafs organization since being drafted in 2016, Woll signed a significant three-year, $10.98-million contract extension with the team in July 2024.
In preseason action, the Maple Leafs claimed a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators and are set for a rematch on Tuesday before facing the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. The team’s regular-season opener is scheduled for Oct. 8 against the Canadiens.
