“Heavy Rains Slam GTA: TRCA Issues Urgent Watershed Warning”

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Braces for Heavy Rainfall

Prepare your umbrellas and rain boots as the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) faces a deluge of rainfall, prompting the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to issue a warning. Anticipated rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 millimetres tonight, followed by an additional 10 to 15 millimetres tomorrow, are expected to impact regions such as Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Markham.

The downpour commenced at 5 p.m. and is projected to continue until 10 a.m. on Wednesday. With some areas of TRCA watersheds already experiencing 32 millimetres of precipitation on Tuesday, the waterlogged ground is struggling to absorb more rain, heightening the risk of flooding.

TRCA cautions that the current weather system raises concerns for potential flooding in vulnerable areas, urging residents to exercise caution. Particularly, the authority highlights the threat of flooding in flood plains and poorly draining low-lying regions due to heavy rain from thunderstorms.
