Nationwide Strike: Canada Post Workers Hit the Streets in Massive Walkout

Canada Post workers have taken a stand by going on strike and setting up picket lines nationwide, as per the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).

In a strong response to what they perceive as government interference with the postal service and its employees, all CUPW members at Canada Post have initiated a widespread strike without delay, the union stated.

The strike action follows the recent approval by the federal government for Canada Post to significantly scale back mail delivery services over the next few years.

Nicole Chouinard, President of CUPW in Prince George, expressed dismay over the situation, noting that workers feel disheartened and frustrated by the treatment they have received.

Chouinard likened the scenario to a David-and-Goliath struggle, emphasizing the sense of constant setbacks the workers have faced.

Alleging that the Crown corporation is not engaging in fair negotiations due to its reliance on potential government intervention, Chouinard highlighted the union’s legal right to strike, which has been maintained since at least May.

The ongoing strike represents a significant development in the ongoing dispute between Canada Post workers and management.
