Projet Montréal Pledges Improved Public Toilet Access for Montreal
Projet Montréal, led by mayoral candidate Luc Rabouin, has unveiled plans to enhance public toilet facilities across Montreal if they win the upcoming election in November.
The party aims to ensure that both residents and visitors can easily locate free public restrooms within a 15-minute walking distance from any point in the city. This initiative is driven by a vision of inclusivity, user-friendliness, and convenience for all Montrealers, ensuring essential services are readily accessible.
Rabouin emphasized the importance of clean and accessible restrooms as a fundamental necessity, rather than a luxury, for individuals to lead a stress-free life. The provision of nearby sanitary facilities is crucial for seniors venturing out, parents facing unexpected outings, and citizens enjoying the city in a dignified manner.
To achieve this goal, Projet Montréal plans to upgrade the maintenance of existing toilets in park chalets and municipal buildings, install 20 self-cleaning toilets in high-traffic areas, and place 40 chemical toilets in popular parks and public squares. They also intend to collaborate with local merchants willing to open their restroom facilities to the public and implement new signage to guide individuals to the nearest available restroom.
The proposed project is estimated to require an investment of approximately $8.3 million to improve public toilet access throughout Montreal.
