“Quebec Labor Scandal: Minister Orders Probe into Explosive Document Leak”

Labour Minister Jean Boulet has initiated an inquiry within his ministry to address the unauthorized disclosure of a confidential document.

In a recent development, Québec solidaire MNA Alexandre Leduc obtained a preliminary version of Boulet’s upcoming legislation concerning union dues.

The leaked draft proposes that the Legault administration is contemplating granting union members the option to refrain from funding union activities deemed unrelated to labor relations.

The CAQ has expressed its discontent with the Fédération autonome de l’enseignement (FAE) teacher union, which is openly challenging Bill 21 that prohibits certain government employees, including educators, from wearing religious symbols.

Speaking at a news briefing at the National Assembly, Boulet disclosed that an internal inquiry had been launched a day earlier within his ministry.

“We must investigate this matter. It is evident that the leak did not originate from our cabinet. The document was acquired by my counterpart from Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. I am uncertain as to who might have disclosed this document,” he remarked.

While refraining from reiterating trust in his staff, Boulet also highlighted the importance of parliamentary privilege.

“It is imperative for this information to remain strictly confidential. Parliamentarians hold the privileged right to be informed about the content of a legislative proposal,” he stressed.
