The Quebec government is changing course on its plan to ban the sale of new gasoline vehicles by 2035.
Environment Minister Bernard Drainville has decided to revise the policy put in place by his predecessor, Benoit Charette.
Initially, the regulation aimed to have all new vehicles sold in Quebec be fully electric by 2035 to combat greenhouse gas emissions.
However, the government has now adjusted the target to 90% electric vehicle sales, which will also include plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Quebec Conservative leader Éric Duhaime has been vocal in his opposition to the original ban for several months.
