Day 3: Montreal’s STM Strike Intensifies, Expect Major Disruptions in Friday’s Commute

The strike by STM maintenance workers persists, causing ongoing disruptions to metro and bus services on Fridays.

The strike, which started earlier this week, will continue until Oct. 5, impacting around 2,400 workers.

On strike days (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), metro service will operate only during specific time slots:

Bus services are also affected on Fridays, with STM buses operating on a reduced schedule.

During the weeks of Sept. 21 and Sept. 28, no STM buses will run between 9:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. as well as between 6 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Paratransit services are not affected and will continue to run as usual.

The STM advises passengers to check their website for schedule updates and to allocate extra time for travel due to the disruptions.

Negotiations between the STM and maintenance workers are deadlocked, with key issues including disagreements over unconventional work hours and salary increments.
