Premier David Eby Unveils Critical Expansion with New Involuntary Care Beds and Power Line to Energize North Coast

During his address to British Columbia’s local government officials, Premier David Eby unveiled plans for expanded mental health and addiction care facilities and the construction of the North Coast power line. Eby’s announcements included the development of new care centers in Surrey and Prince George, adding 100 beds to address severe mental health issues and control crime in the region.

Speaking at the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Victoria, Eby emphasized the importance of enhancing public safety and addressing homelessness challenges faced by communities across the province. He highlighted a decrease in crime rates by 11%, but stressed the need for residents to feel secure in their neighborhoods.

In response to calls for increased involuntary care options to tackle public disorder and homelessness, Eby underscored the province’s commitment to investing in resources to support vulnerable populations and victims of crime. Additionally, he expressed optimism about forthcoming Criminal Code reforms by the federal government.

Eby also outlined the economic benefits of the North Coast power transmission line project, which is set to create job opportunities and attract substantial investments to northern and rural areas between Prince George and Terrace.
