“Richmond Hill Man Impersonates Rideshare Driver, Faces Sexual Assault Charges”

A man faces charges of sexual assault for impersonating a rideshare driver and luring a victim.

According to York police, in the early hours of September 21, a woman was waiting for a ride near Major Mackenzie Drive West and Jane Street when a man approached her. Claiming to be a rideshare driver, he struck up a conversation with her and offered to take her home.

Once inside the vehicle, he diverted the route to a parking lot on Major Mackenzie where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Following the assault, he threatened her, forced her out of the car, and fled the scene.

The victim promptly reported the incident to the police. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle in the vicinity after a search.

Mohammad Shaqueel Zolmay, a 30-year-old resident of Richmond Hill, was apprehended and charged with sexual assault, kidnapping, and uttering threats. His court appearance is scheduled for October 3, pending a bail hearing.

Authorities have released Zolmay’s photo, suspecting additional victims might exist who have yet to come forward. The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
