Second Suspect Arrested in Tragic Shooting Death of 8-Year-Old JahVai Roy in North York

Toronto authorities have apprehended a second individual in connection with the tragic death of JahVai Roy, the eight-year-old boy who was fatally shot while sleeping in his family’s North York residence on August 16.

After identifying three suspects in the case, one was previously arrested, and a second suspect was recently taken into custody in London, Ontario following a search warrant execution.

Both individuals detained are facing charges of first-degree murder, while a third suspect is still at large.

All suspects are minors and cannot be named due to legal restrictions, despite initial authorization to release their identities and photos which has since expired.

The passing of Roy sparked widespread sorrow and outrage within the community.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on August 16 outside the young boy’s home on 15 Martha Eaton Way, close to Trethewey Drive, resulting in Roy being found with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital by paramedics but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Detective Sergeant Jason Davis condemned the violent act as “cowardly” and “disgusting,” emphasizing the tragedy of a child being harmed in what should have been the safety of his own home.
