Urgent Evacuation Order for Hundreds in Peachland Amid Rising Threat

A large wildfire in the Central Okanagan region of British Columbia is causing mass evacuations as fire crews work to contain the blaze. The Munro Lake wildfire, spanning over 74 hectares, has prompted the evacuation of more than 300 properties in Peachland and surrounding areas as of September 25.

Shae Stearns from the BC Wildfire Service notes that the fire’s northern flank is expanding rapidly, primarily driven by strong winds. Crews are closely monitoring the situation and adjusting their strategies in response to the unpredictable fire behavior.

Both aerial and ground crews are actively fighting the wildfire while residents hurriedly evacuate their homes. Janette, a resident, describes the evacuation process as “organized chaos,” reflecting the urgency and tension in the community.

Sarah, another local, shares her experience of evacuating with her family, taking necessary precautions such as securing their property and ensuring the safety of their pets.

The BC Wildfire Service has issued evacuation orders for areas near Munro Lake Forest Service Road and Peachland Main Road, with over 1,000 addresses on evacuation alert in the region.
