A heartfelt plea has been made by the grieving family of Linda Brière, a woman tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident in Lachine. The family is urging the driver responsible to come forward to face justice as they come to terms with the sudden loss of their loved one.
The tragic event unfolded on Friday evening when emergency services rushed to 25th Ave. near Saint-Antoine Street, where Linda was found lying on the road. Despite being conscious at the scene, Linda later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Witnesses revealed that a vehicle struck Linda before fleeing the scene, leaving her a few meters away from a pedestrian crossing.
Linda, a 57-year-old woman with a mild intellectual disability, was known for her daily commutes on foot and by bus to her workplace in a sorting center in Lachine. She was possibly on her way back home from returning containers, as bags, cans, and bottles were discovered near the accident site.
The police spokesperson, Jean-Pierre Brabant, confirmed the hit-and-run nature of the incident, highlighting the ongoing search for the vehicle involved. Despite interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, no arrests have been made so far.
This tragic incident adds to a series of pedestrian accidents in Montreal, with four individuals struck within a week, resulting in two fatalities. The public is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying the driver involved in Linda’s case.
The Brière family, along with the SPVM, appeals to the community for support and information. If you have any details regarding the hit-and-run incident on 25th Ave., please contact 911 or share anonymously through Info-crime to aid the ongoing investigation.
