Man dies in downtown Montreal hit-and-run

A man in his 50s died in a hit-and-run early Tuesday morning in downtown Montreal.

Montreal police (SPVM) said that a 911 call was placed at around 4:20 a.m. about an unconscious man lying on the ground near René-Lévesque Blvd. and Peel Street in the Ville-Marie borough.

When officers arrived to the scene they located the victim, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, explained a SPVM media relations officer Jean-Pierre Barbant.

“According to information that were obtained by different witnesses, seems like the victim was hit by a vehicle that was on René-Lévesque heading west,” he added.

The SPVM explained that the vehicle failed to stop after the collision.

Surveillance cameras will be reviewed by investigators.

René-Lévesque Blvd. West was closed between Drummond and Metcalfe Streets.

An investigation is ongoing.
