Former Labor Union Chief Accused of Embezzling Over $100,000

A former Branch President of a local union in Ontario, Mark Babcook, was recently arrested and charged following a probe into the suspected misuse of union funds. Peel Regional Police initiated the investigation after receiving reports of financial irregularities from the union itself. The allegations indicate that Babcook, 41, from Toronto, may have misappropriated over $100,000 from the union’s funds. He now faces charges of fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained through unlawful means. Babcook is expected to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton to address the charges.
