Health Minister Christian Dubé commits to a pause in considering Bill 106 as talks with physicians enter mediation. Recently, Dubé and Treasury Board President France-Élaine Duranceau initiated discussions with both medical federations to push for a constructive mediation process. The government is currently facing a significant standoff with doctors over Bill 106, which includes tying a portion of their pay to performance metrics.
The Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ) has consented to mediation as of Tuesday, though they are maintaining their teaching boycott. On the other hand, the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) has indicated a willingness to engage in mediation for renegotiating the agreement framework. They have also put forth a formal counterproposal to the government to delineate the process and objectives clearly. Additionally, the FMOQ has agreed to postpone their planned teaching boycott from October 1 to October 4.
