Police reported that a disturbing incident unfolded outside a synagogue in the northern part of Manchester, resulting in injuries to four individuals. According to Greater Manchester Police, they received a call around 9:30 a.m. alerting them to a car driving towards the public and a stabbing that occurred outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall.
Emergency medical teams swiftly responded, arriving on the scene at 9:41 a.m. to assist the injured individuals, who suffered wounds from both the vehicle and a stabbing. Authorities have urged the public to steer clear of the area as they work to manage the situation.
Shortly after the initial report, shots were fired by armed officers, with one individual, believed to be the perpetrator, being shot. The injured victims are currently receiving medical attention for their wounds.
Andy Burnham, mayor of Greater Manchester, confirmed to BBC Radio that the immediate threat has been contained.
This unsettling incident occurred on Yom Kippur, the most sacred day in the Jewish calendar, adding further significance to the situation.
