“Unending Disruption: Scarborough Locals Battle Relentless Noise and Traffic Chaos from Kennedy GO Station Construction”

A longtime resident of Scarborough is facing challenges in his neighborhood due to disruptive loudspeaker announcements from Kennedy GO station and increased traffic congestion caused by ongoing construction.

Tryko, a resident since the 1950s, shared with CityNews that the station’s early morning announcements starting at 5:30 a.m. have been disturbing his sleep and daily routine. The constant noise continues throughout the day, making it difficult for him to rest or focus.

According to Tryko, the volume of the announcements has significantly risen over the past three years, with frequent broadcasts in both English and French. He noted that the French version tends to be louder, adding to the disturbance.

Despite his efforts to address the issue with Metrolinx, the problem persists. Even though the announcements have reportedly been toned down recently, the disturbance remains a concern for Tryko and other residents.

Metrolinx, in response to CityNews inquiries, has stated that they will assess the volume of station announcements at Kennedy GO. The ongoing construction at the station is part of a larger initiative to develop Kennedy into a comprehensive transit hub linking GO Transit, the TTC, and the future Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

In addition to the noise concerns, residents have been facing escalating traffic and parking issues on Benjamin Boulevard following the closure of the north parking lot at the Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre for construction purposes. This has resulted in more vehicles spilling over onto residential streets, causing further frustration for locals.

The situation has led to overcrowded parking lots and streets where unauthorized parking is becoming a common sight. Tryko shared an incident where his neighbor had to contend with 20 cars parked on the road due to limited parking availability.

While the provincial transit agency emphasizes that the construction aims to enhance Kennedy GO Station as part of a transit hub connecting various public transportation services, residents like Tryko are hopeful for a resolution to the disturbances affecting their daily lives.
