In a dramatic turn of events, a burned-out vehicle discovered in Rivière-des-Prairies early on Thursday has been connected to the high-profile fatal shooting at a Laval Starbucks the day before.
The vehicle, charred and abandoned, was located at approximately 3 a.m. in a parking lot on Joliot-Curie Street near Clément-Ader Avenue, as confirmed by SPVM media relations officer Raphaël Bergeron speaking to CityNews.
The investigation into this eerie discovery has now been handed over to the arson squad of the police force. Firefighters had alerted the authorities after discovering possible accelerants at the scene.
While there has been widespread speculation in the media, the SPVM has refrained from verifying whether the vehicle is indeed linked to the suspects involved in the Starbucks shooting. The incident, which occurred near Highway 440, resulted in the reported assassination of a reputed leader from an influential organized crime syndicate in broad daylight.
The Sûreté du Québec has likewise refrained from confirming this detail, opting instead to acknowledge the connection between the vehicle fire and the shooting incident.
