PLQ Urges Probe into Digital Transformation of Healthcare—What’s at Stake?

The Quebec Liberal Party Calls for Investigation into Healthcare Digital Transformation
The Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) is urging the National Assembly’s Health and Social Services Committee to delve into the management of the healthcare system’s digital transformation.

In a recent move, the PLQ made this appeal just before Santé Québec announced halting two significant projects linked to its digital transition.

Santé Québec has put on hold its initiatives to modernize payroll and purchasing management within the healthcare system, as well as delaying the Digital Health Record by six months.

The agency emphasized that the Financial and Procurement Information System and the Digital Health Record are pivotal components of its digital evolution but admitted that the current conditions for their success are lacking.

Notably, the PLQ expressed concerns over potential cost overruns, citing worries about a possible repeat of a major failure like the SAAQclic debacle.

PLQ members Marc Tanguay and Michelle Setlakwe, alongside healthcare professionals, have raised alarms following reassurances from Legault government ministers regarding the ongoing digital transformation in healthcare.

As the opposition calls for accountability, they aim for the committee to scrutinize the project leaders, evaluate preventive measures to avoid costly failures, and review the coordination between cybersecurity experts and Santé Québec.

The need for thorough examination before proceeding with the massive digital transformation project is stressed to prevent further setbacks and restore public confidence.
