Via Rail Train Involved in Collision Near Oshawa, Causing Service Disruptions
Canada’s national passenger rail service, Via Rail, encountered a setback when one of its trains, traveling from Toronto to Montreal, was part of a collision east of Oshawa. The incident, which took place around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, has prompted the suspension of services on various routes.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the passengers or onboard service crew. Via Rail expressed sympathy for those affected by the accident and assured that they are investigating the matter further.
Although the cause of the crash remains undisclosed, a passenger on the train alleged that it collided with a vehicle on the tracks before coming to an abrupt halt. Emergency teams have taken control of the situation by closing off the tracks for a thorough examination, leading to delays on routes connecting Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.
The disruption has impacted several train services, including Trains 46, 47, 48, 54, 67, 68, 645, 646, and 668, all of which are currently experiencing delays. Via Rail acknowledged the inconvenience caused to its customers and expressed regret for any disruption to their travel plans.
